McDonald's Mother Pictures and Video
This article contains a video that is a 9 second clip of the mother's son reciting, "Welcome to McDonald's, can I help you?" The clip is replayed twice before it ends. The video was used to emphasize the point made in the article about how kids at such a young age can be very impressionable but there is some exaggeration in the article about the video. In the article, his mother feels guilty after she realizes that her son "had perfected the McDonald's drive-thru patter thanks to her morning coffee runs," while the video requires subtitles to even understand what the boy is saying. This may just be because he is a child so it's hard to understand him anyway but saying he perfected the McDonald's script is a bit of a stretch. The article also provides numerous pictures of the boy and his younger brother playing together and one in particular where they are both sitting together in front of a McDonald's. The pictures appeal to pathos and show how the boy really acts and that he isn't some kid that is obsessed with McDonald's.
Yorkshire Ripper Pictures and Video
The pictures in this article are of the Yorkshire Ripper in his early ages before he was arrested. The pictures make this article more problematic because it humanizes the Yorkshire Ripper and displays him as an innocent man that's smiling and loves his wife when in reality he murdered 13 women in cold blood. The video attached has nothing to do with him jumping the wait list for surgery, instead it's about his court hearing and a quick interview with one of the victim's son about seeing the Yorkshire Ripper in person.
Dressmaker Picture
This quick article only has one image and it's a stock photo of a woman's corset being tied in her wedding dress. It correlates with the sentence, "It’s fine if they’re slimming, I can take most fabrics in, but not so great when they’re comfort-eating from stress," by showing a woman with a slim waist and how effortlessly it is to tie her corset compared to a bigger woman.
Flinders St. Homeless Pictures and Video
This article contains a great deal of pictures from the protest that occurred because homeless people, called rough sleepers, were being kicked out of their campsites to make way for construction. The images are all intensely powerful, showing a homeless woman struggling as she's hassled and shoved into a cop car by 4 police officers at once. They also display that same woman standing up to the police officers, rough sleepers making signs that say, "Civil, not Criminal" and, "Sleeping Rough is NOT a Crime" in one picture and them being detained by the police in the next, and hundreds of officers lining up in front of the street to protect the construction. The video is brutal and hard to watch. It's raw footage of police brutality, the homeless woman in most of the pictures is getting into an argument with one of the officers when another comes from behind and grabs her arm. The first officer then grabs her other arm and they both literally slam her to the ground and stay on top of her even though she has clearly given up. People then gather around and start screaming and yelling for them to get off of her and how she didn't do anything wrong and then the video abruptly ends. These images and videos all show how poorly the law enforcement can handle protests and how devastated everyone is that they are doing this.
Stephen Glover Article Pictures and Video
One of Stephen Glover's recent articles talks about Brexit and shows professional pictures of Theresa May, the British Prime Minister of 2016. He's on her side for voting to leave and believes she has made the right decision while dealing with the double standard that most women politicians face. The pictures show her professional side, she's seen giving speeches and taking interviews to make her seem more credible. There is also a picture of Francois Holland, the French President at the time, and it shows him smiling and makes him look childish a bit. Stephen Glover included this picture because President Holland was strongly opposed to Prime Minister May's decision and Stephen wanted to ruin his credibility by showing how immature he can be.
Katie Hopkins Article Pictures and Video
Katie Hopkins' most recent article has made her go under fire as she chastises a school and the PTA committee for the death of one of their students during a field trip to a theme park. The pictures are of the girl, Evha Jannath, who died, the school, officials and staff standing near the ride that caused Evha's death, two other girls who suffered from accidents at that theme park, a sign stating that school would be closed that Wednesday for mourning, and the headmistress of the school during the interview. The video is a clip from the public announcement that the headmistress gave and how sorry she felt for that family and that she plans on giving them as much as they need to grieve. The pictures of Evha and the sign appeal to pathos because it shows how sweet and beautiful Evha was while the sign is a complete contrast, displaying the tragedy that occurred. The pictures of the two other girls is an appeal to Ethos because it shows that this wasn't the first accident to occur at this theme park, it was the third, and it ruins the theme park's credibility. The article also challenges the school's credibility when Katie Hopkins begins to analyze the Headmistress' public announcement and the school itself, asking the question, "Since when was a trip to a theme park an essential part of a rounded education?"
